Content consumption is moving towards audio:
Over the last few years, we see a dramatic shift in content consumption. According to DemandSage, by 2024, the number of podcast listeners will pass the 500 million bar worldwide, that’s half a billion.
Another outstanding stat by Edison Research shows that in 2023, spoken word is taking 31% of all audio time. In other words, spoken word is giving a fair fight to the music industry.
Global podcast listening chart Adding audio to your content strategy The obvious question we all need to ask is what we are doing with this trend. While a large portion of companies have a podcast or plan to invest in one over the next year, if you look at the amount of content companies create, the focus is still on written content.Content marketers keep creating more and more blog posts, white papers and eBooks and promoting newsletters. All of these focus on textual content, missing the opportunity to move into the listening time of your busy target audience.
The growing consumption of audio provides a opportunity to repurpose content and get more attention, traffic and time.
Audio presents a much bigger opportunity for marketers. Besides that podcast you are trying to promote, what if you could turn every piece of written content created by your team into audio? With the recent progress of AI tools in general and audio technologies specifically, we were able to build a tool that will allow turning your blog posts into audio and publishing them as podcasts with a minimal effort.
Summurai is much more than a text-to-speech engine. While other TTS generators stop only create a voice file, leaving it for you to figure out what to do with it, we designed Summurai to become your audio content management system, allowing you to create audio items, embed them in your blog and digital assets, share them with your brand identity, host them as playlists in your website, use them as lead-gen engines and track their performance.
Let's talk about getting started with Summurai’s Voice Studio, turning your text into audio and preparing it to be loaded to podcast platforms. As soon as you log in to the Summurai Dojo, our content management system, go directly to the “Voice Studio” on the left menu bar. You’ll be able to add the subject and content of your blog post manually or use the “Import from blog” option on the top. It’s important to go over your text and make sure that it was imported correctly. Importing the blog content depends on the technical structure of your blog and may load some of the meta data around the blog content.
Turning your text into audio Once your text is clear, it’s time to listen to the different voices and find the tone of voice that fits to your message. We keep on adding more voices to make sure you get as many options to choose from. When you find the right voice for you, make sure to mark it with a star. This will move it to the top of the list, to make your work easier next time. It’s time to click on “Create Summy” and get your voice ready.
That’s it! Your Summy is ready! The Summy is not just an audio file. It’s a combination of elements that create an optimized content experience for your audience and a great way to push your business forward, with a combination of brand identity, visual, text, audio and call-to-action.
Use the “Edit” option to edit the visual and add a call-to-action button. Once you are ready to launch, use the “Share” option to get a sharable link or add this Summy to your playlist.
Creating a Summurai playlist, and loading RSS to podcast platforms Each Summurai playlist can contain multiple Summies and can be exported to an RSS file. The updating RSS is way to the podcast. In order to publish a podcast on Spotify or any other podcast platform, all you need is to provide a link to an RSS.
Let’s get back to strategy Now that you know what Summurai is all about, and you see how easy way it is to turn your content into audio, it’s time to look at it from your content strategy point of view. Turning your blog into a podcast is just one option. In addition to that, you’ll be able to add audio to your blog posts with Playter and turn visitors into leads, you’ll be able to create an audio channel in your website and you’ll be able to create playlists that can be used as lead magnets. Audio can bring a boost to your content strategy and it’s time you move your focus to enjoy that.

After many years of creating interactions between people and digital products in the world of UX design — seeing tremendous content overload from brands as well as content fatigue from the customer side — it’s clear to me that it’s time for something new. It’s time for audio to take its place.No. I’m not talking about podcasts. I’m talking about a much wider concept, where audio becomes another major element we embed along the customer journey. Audio opens the door to a new type of communication — one that is adapted to all types of devices, and which can fit into even the smallest parts of every customer’s timeline. Yet when I tell this to high-level marketers, digital managers and innovators, most of them respond with surprise. Whenever I offer the concept of embedding audio within the customer journey, the number one comment I get is, “Audio?! Isn’t video the most effective way to push content nowadays?” It’s taken me a while to figure out the reason for this, but I think that I finally have an answer — and it all goes back to the earliest days of communication. Evolution Mass media started off with Johannes Gutenberg’s printing revolution back in the year 1400. It took nearly 450 years for the next medium to take shape, when German physicist Heinrich Rudolf Hertz proved the existence of electromagnetic waves and allowed for the creation of the radio. Next in line was the television, which appeared in the 1930s, offering an enhanced experienced for both our eyes and our ears. The digital revolution was not far behind, first as text-only services, and moving to visual interfaces in 1979. Video took a while longer to appear — although internet video was already available back in 1995, it took another decade for YouTube to come along and offer online video sharing. Luckily, this came at a good time, as high-speed internet, smartphones and social media were all about to become commonplace and revolutionize the way we consume content, as well as significantly shorten our attention span. I found out why they don’t open the door The reason it’s so hard to realize that audio is the next big thing is that it sounds like a bit of a paradox — if we already have extensive experience with video content, it doesn’t make sense to take a step back and work on audio content. While it’s natural to think this way, there is a simple reason why going one step back actually means taking a giant leap forward. Video — like text-based media — requires our full attention. And in the year 2020, our full attention is way too much to ask. The fifth disruption Audio is the next big thing because of a simple thing that we just don’t have enough of — time. Watching a video or reading a text means that we have to stop everything else we’re doing and concentrate on the media we’re consuming. Because of our short attention span, neither of these media has a bright future ahead of them. Audio is the only form of communication that can find its way into our heads while we are busy doing other things. Voice is the fifth digital disruption — and yet it has only been around since 2016. If you ask digital experts what the “voice revolution” is all about, they will probably mention personal assistants and podcasting. But while both these concepts are indeed pretty innovative, most digital marketing experts don’t have much use for them. You could always start a podcast, but this will require long-term commitment and effort. If you don’t maintain the right talent, consistency and passion — your podcast will fade into oblivion pretty quickly. In addition, the ROI on podcasting is still way too vague for podcasts to be considered a valuable asset. Providing a service that integrates with personal assistants is another pretty vague idea. It sounds nice, but people who use personal assistants will be hard-pressed to make use of your content there. This is much bigger than Alexa and podcasts If you ask me, brands still don’t understand the real potential behind audio. It isn’t podcasting, and it isn’t integration with personal assistants. The real potential of audio is all about embedding audio within different points in time across the customer journey. Think of all of the content your brand creates: a blog, social media posts, eBooks, whitepapers, emails, text messages… And now look at your customers’ timeline and ask yourself — at what point in their day do you expect them to dive into any of your content? Were you really expecting your audience to download and read that 15-page white-paper you produced, or open that user manual you’ve just emailed them? Now imagine turning all this into audio. That customer who has just come across your blog post but doesn’t really want to read the entire thing — how about adding a “Send to My Phone” button to your page so that she can listen to that content later as she’s driving back home? Consider replacing your white paper with an audio playlist, thereby allowing your customers to consume your content easily by simply hitting the ‘Play’ button on their phone. Not only will you have higher engagement, you’ll also be able to track the interaction and know exactly how engaged each customer is, allowing you to easily identify potential customers showing interest, and marking them as qualified leads. And what about that repetitive sales pitch or after-sales instructions that your sales team has to keep repeating over and over again? What if you replaced it with an audio playlist that they could send to the customer? I’m sure your sales team would love to have more time to deal with things that actually matter. Think of audio as a tool for keeping your team up to date. Whether it’s that product brief you want your team to hear, a message from the CEO, or a consistent way of providing your workers with audio summaries of informative online articles. What about your blog? Instead of creating new content from scratch, you could offer an audio channel with summaries of top articles in your area of expertise from across the web, allowing you to present quality content through an engaging interface suited to your customers’ busy lifestyle. 0 Tal Florentin Founder and Emperor @ Summurai Florentin, a UX specialist, award winner, speaker and author, has founded Summurai to help busy professionals know more with less efforts and turn audio into a game changer in the communication between businesses and their customers. Visit Summurai Toggle navigation Playlists Pricing Shop Blog Contact us Login Tal Florentin Founder and Emperor @ Summurai 10 The real cost of blogging Blogs are all around usHave you noticed how practically every company website incorporates a company blog nowadays? Adding a blog is a cheap and effective way to touch base with your customers while keeping them both informed about and engaged in your brand’s activities. This means more customer interaction, increased website traffic and, eventually, more sales. Sounds easy enough, so long as your blog is easily accessed, carefully curated and wisely promoted. Each of these important facets will cost money, but how much money exactly? Let’s break the costs down to get a ballpark figure. Easy access: publishing a blog on your siteIf you already have a blog incorporated into your site, then congratulations — you’ve tackled the first hurdle. If not, then this may be the first dip into your company wallet. A blog is an area of the website that needs to be updated on a regular basis, around once a week. It is important to have your blog appear on own company’s website rather than sending people to another platform. If your website is hosted on a service such as WordPress, and you or your team can tinkle with your website in-house, then adding a blog should be straightforward and cost nothing. If not, you will want to get someone to move your entire site to WordPress and integrate a blog into it, or do it yourself if you’ve got the knowledge. If outsourcing, figure a one time cost of around $400 for the help of a WordPress migration expert. Blog posts: writing them the right wayThe focus of your blog should be your existing customers and potential ones. For their sake, you will likely want to keep blog posts short and simple: most people are likely to scan your blog post to look for interesting keywords which will make them want to read the whole paragraph. Too much text and your readers may lose interest and move on. Think of what your customers are interested in when deciding what to write. The best way to ascertain what your customers want to know about you is to perform a keyword search using a tool such as Google AdWords Keyword Planner. You can use it to identify the relevant keywords for your industry, and base your blog posts around them. You may want to write the blog post yourself or in-house, or you may want to consider outsourcing it to a writer who knows how to integrate SEO optimization into it. Incorporating SEO helps drive traffic to your website, and an SEO expert will know which keywords to add using tools such as SEMrush or Google’s Keyword Planner, as well as where to place them. They will also deal with optimizing images, links and metadata — all things that search engines look for when deciding how prominently to display your blog post in search results. Prices are all over the place for blog articles but want to make sure that your writer is fluent in the target language of your audience. After all, you don’t want to have to spend extra time or money proofreading the material or converting from metric into imperial. You’ll also want to make sure that the content is entirely original and not ripped off from somewhere else on the internet. it’s a good idea to run it through a plagiarism checker such as those offered by Grammarly or SEO Review Tools to make sure. The cost of a blog postFigure around $100 for a regular blog post, although different online content providers charge different rates. For example: Content Writers charge around $115 for a standard blog post of between 300 and 500 words Scripted offer a range from $39 for short items of 350-450 and up to $85 for a longer format of 850-950 words. The Content Factory will charge between $80 and $950 per item, depending on the length and the number of items ordered. This price will also include posting the content directly into your blog as well as promoting it. Typically, any service incorporating SEO optimization will run between $500-$950. Freelance writers can also be hired through websites such as Upwork.com and Freelancer.com, to name a couple. Prices vary tremendously but so does quality, as the more experienced a writer is, the more they tend to charge. A good index of freelancer pay rates appears in this infographic over at ClearVoice.com. Nevertheless, talent from different countries have different pay rates that are dependent more on location than experience, so a highly experienced writer in India or the Philippines might end up being better value for money than a beginner writer from North America. Establishing freelance pay rates is a fine art, as this Quora thread explains, with many different factors taken into account. Unless your blog post is on an extremely niche topic, though, you should be able to shop around for a competitive rate. 3. Social media: sharing is caringGetting someone to share your blog post on Facebook, LinkedIn or other social media platforms is easier said than done. The most obvious first step is to make it easy for them to do so by including share icons at the end of your blog post. Next, you should publish your blog post on your company’s own media channels, preferably with a nice enticing image attached. If you have an email list, a link to your blog post belongs there, too. You must also be able to provide your readers with an incentive to share your blog post. Asking them nicely is a good start. Writing irresistible content is another. Nevertheless, there may come a time where you may want to enter the world of paid social media and in order to have your content pushed to people’s feeds. Facebook’s Sponsored Stories, Twitter’s Promoted Tweets and LinkedIn’s Sponsored Updates are the backbone of the world of social media marketing. You may want to have a dedicated social media marketer either outsourced or in-house. An agency working part-time for a small business will charge between $500 and $1000 a month. If you have time to spend, you can learn the basics on your own and use a social media scheduler such as Buffer for your business. Your budget then goes down to around $100 a month. The ads themselves will take out the biggest chunk of the budget. Factor in between $500 and $1000 a month for paid social media ads. You can decide which segment of Facebook or LinkedIn users these ads appear to, so even though paid social media may sound expensive, it may just prove indispensable. ConclusionBlogging for your company is an investment that pays off. It’s definitely possible to do everything yourself and rely on organic sharing to get your content read, but a quicker and more popular way is to outsource the job to professional copywriters and social media marketers who can produce your content and share it via paid social media. It may sound cliché, but everyone else is doing it. History is killing the future of audio experiences No need to read 00:00 00:00 Listen later Powered byPlayter® Powered byPlayter® It’s time for audio.

The real cost of blogging Blogs are all around usHave you noticed how practically every company website incorporates a company blog nowadays?
For example:
Content Writers charge around $115 for a standard blog post of between 300 and 500 words Scripted offer a range from $39 for short items of 350-450 and up to $85 for a longer format of 850-950 words.
